Great follow up on their debut ep. By expanding on their already impressive ambient palette these two Boards of Canada enthusiasts are really giving Biosphere a run for his money when it comes to what constitutes the sound of Norwegian ambient. Great music to study and minding your own business to.
Favorite track: FAZAANHIJIAN.
Fochs Koshka is fast becoming one of the most forward-thinking duo in the Norwegian electronic music scene, flying the flag for increasingly hybridized techno and hyper-attitude. In a techno scene where producers glance back on the past for inspiration - Fochs Koshka’s sounds are a glimpse into the future. Their sound is matchless and cannot be defined; readily bottling a multitude of sentiments in a relatively short space of time. The Norwegian duo continues their expedition through shape-shifting universes on their debut for Mhost Likely Black, with three distinct but equally remarkable tracks. The EP comes complete with remixes from Brussel-based composer Öspiel (RAW) and everyone's favourite uncle, Reidar Bruun.
‘FAZAANIHAJIAN’ kick starts the EP in Fochs Koshka signature, erratic style, as squelchy synth lines whines at heavily swung drums, and punkish bass lines grooves over an anxious soundscape. The track feels like a haunted and trippy nightmare where you run away from killer-pheasants in a Fallout-like apocalypse.
‘JEIHETTERJAN’ meanders from Norwegian folk dance to deconstructed techno. The track starts with a voice chanting “MY NAME IS JAN” before the kick slams you in the face, leaving you grimly. The sound if you go to a traditional Norwegian folk dance where everyone is heavily drugged induced. A contemporary-banger; with a hint of native humour sprinkled on top for good measure.
Fochs Koshka’s hyper-techno soundscape continues in ‘Dingus Redford’. An in-your-face, frantic piece of work, perfectly encapsulating the feeling of being trapped in the somewhat destructive rave loop; ‘For the years you watched slowly drift away. For the lies, you told yourself when you said it would be okay.
The EP then closes off with remixes from, RAW ppl affiliated with Öspiel - and Reidar Bruun (aka. Niilas). Öspiel’s remix of ‘FAZAAHIJAN’ is a highly textured and elegant dark trip into industrial techno that is done right. Next to it is, Reidar Bruun’s remix of ‘JEIHETERJAN’ - a stomping house track with bouncing breaks, synth stabs and underground energy.
